Finally!
by Mez on Oct.30, 2006, under Personal
I’ve finally…. after god knows how long, got my internet sorted out at home.
Thanks to the guys at WebTapestry for providing excellent support and Internet access where others said they couldn’t
Also thanks to neuro for recommending them.
Expect to see more of me around the net now
Oh, and it was nice when I opened my router to see a copy of the GPL staring up at me
Wouldn’t it be nice…

by Mez on Oct.18, 2006, under Personal
I’ve just had to sign up to the Telephone Preference Service, after, 1 hour after having my new phone line fitted at my new place, I recieved a marketing call, and then another from the same company an hour later.
The installation guy must have tipped them off it was ok to call
And now to sort out my problems with my ISP
Web Host Annoyances
by Mez on Oct.13, 2006, under Personal
It seems my web host has taken it upon itself to, instead of displaying generic ErrorDocuments, to display ErrorDocuments with Adverts in.
This – I am not happy with, and I’m sure is illegal for them to do (generating revenue from every customer’s site who hasn’t set a custom 404 page!)
To see what I mean – see here.
I think this is totally wrong and unethical. I’ve been thinking of changing hosts for a while now anyway, and this is now just something that tops it. I will be moving.
I used to think that 1and1 were a reputable company. Now I do not, and I will be writing to them in the near future to express my disgust at this outrage.
Amusing…

The other day, I walked into a local computer shop as I needed to buy a few components, after a while, I got chatting to the Sales Girl, and the talk moved to Linux. she said she was trying out linux on her laptop, and I asked her what she was using
“Oh, ‘K-ubuntu’”
“Really? I help with the development of that” (not true of late – but hey!)
“Wow – I’ve met someone famous”
