Should I or Shouldn’t I?

Over the last couple of days, I’ve been posting a few things that have made me giggle, to share with the outer world.

Anyways, I’ve had a complaint, so I’d like to know from you guys and gals whether you think I should continue doing so?

I’m not a big fan. Seems like if we wanted those we could go directly to the source (speaking as a Planet Ubuntu reader).

  3. Jacob Peddicord Says:

I’ve never had a problem with them personally, in fact, they always do give me the giggle of the day. :)

  4. C Nelson Says:

    You Should.
I appreciate some funny in my rss feeds.

But fix your layout first, it’s absolutely pwnt in Konqueror.

  5. Alex Says:

I spent most of the afternoon today pissed off. I think a “Giggle of the Day” would have improved my mood immensely. I encourage you to continue. Anyone who complains needs to lighten up.

  6. Jeff Schroeder Says:

    Just my personal opinion, “No”.

  7. Zexy Says:

As long as it pertains to Linux / Ubuntu, I don’t have issue. Seems though that there are times that planet.ubuntu.com seems to get swamped with useless drivel just because someone decided to put thier entire site on feed.

I don’t want to know about someone’s vacation, hardtimes, rockband, etc. when I go to planet Ubuntu. I go there for Ubuntu newsbits and articles and of course the occasional noteworthly linux tidbit. I don’t have enough time to follow multiple Linux news sites on a daily /multi-daily basis so I tend to go to feed sites like planet Ubuntu and follow articles that have specific interest. If some guy is flooding planet with his vacation stories, something worthwhile might actually get pushed off too fast and a lot of people might miss it. That’s really irritating.

What I’m trying to say or better yet ask is: Is there no way to segregate the feeds so items that pertain to Ubuntu/Linux get fed to planet Ubuntu and other such linux-specific sites and “My vacation” feeds get fed to some other site(s) that cater to general social stories?

I’m all for it… Gotta love a good laugh!

I’m guessing the complaint was from the female pictured in your facebook quiz. I for one have enjoyed the giggles - and my giggle was not at the lady in particular, but at the fact she was compared to herself.
If I’m wrong, forgive the assumption - but I would love to see the giggles continue. I too, have been giggling.

Keep it going, I say. One complaint at this point isn’t much, but is worth considering. But really, keep it going. It’s your blog.

  11. Timucin Kizilay Says:

You should continue… it’s good to gigle sometimes so why complain?

  12. Joseph James Frantz Says:

    Martin…my vote ..SHOULD!

We love the technical posts of course! But once in a while something funny to lighten the mood, that can be read in line on the planets with other posts is really great.

  13. Tony Yarusso Says:

I’d say keep posting them blog-wise, but maybe not on Planet Ubuntu? That’s what I’ve been doing (mostly b/c of political posts and the like), so I have a separate Planet category that is the only one syndicated, instead of my main feed.

  14. nixternal Says:

let um complain! I am sick of the “police”, keep me gigglin’ will ya!

oh, and hurry up and secure the wiki :)

  15. Harald Says:

I read Planet Ubuntu to get Ubuntu news, not to get info on the personal lives of people I don’t know, or “funny links”

  16. Dixon Says:

It made me giggle, I like to giggle.

  17. Yann Says:

Please do, but not on the ubuntu planet.

  18. Christian Dannie Storgaard Says:

Keep doing it, make the world a happier place :)

  19. PeggySue Says:

I love humor so I suggest you don’t post your jokes. Not everyone finds the same things funny!
Keep the jokes to a simple tag line and leave out the sexist carp.

My time machine is broken, which is odd; it was working tomorrow.

I have always welcomed a giggle every once in a while. It’s nice after browsing news that Microsoft buys votes for OOXML. Giggles keep me sane. As long as it’s short and doesn’t take more than a few seconds to get to the punchline, it’s all good. In fact, I’d like to thank you for the giggles thus far.

  21. duncan Says:

    ABSOLUTELY!!!
This is what made me giggle today: http://img3.imagevenue.com/loc299/280_katze.jpg

  22. Sandy Says:

Not sure what you may have received a complaint for. Can’t be for being off-topic:

“Planet Ubuntu is a window into the world, work and lives of Ubuntu developers and contributors.”

I don’t see any Code of Conduct violations either.

It’s your blog; keep posting what you like. ;-)

  23. CiarĂ¡n Says:

Its your blog. Your voice, your opinions. Write what ever you feel like. Most people can tune out and skip the stuff they don’t like and get to the bits they do.

    Its channel surfing across RSS.

  24. Mez Says:

andlylockran, no, she told me to pick the left version of her, as it was more evil.
